On Saturday 27 September, the second Meeting of the Board of Directors of the year 2008, of the Latin American and Caribbean Transplant Society took place, whose host city was Cartagena de Indias, Colombia.
An intensive work meeting was carried out at the Hotel Charleston Santa Teresa de Ciudad Antigua en Cartagena de Indias, which was presided over by Dr. José Toro (Chile) and had the attendance of Dr. Domingo Casadei, Dr. Roberto Tanus (Argentina), Dr. Sergio Orihuela (Uruguay), Dr. Alejandro Niño (Colombia), Dr. David Arana (Venezuela), Dr. Ashley Baquero (Dominican Republic) and representatives of the Board of Directors of the Colombian Transport Society.
Important subjects were dealt with in this meeting, such as the progress of the XX Latin American and Caribbean Transplant Congress, which was to take place on 22 to 26 September 2009: the guests that had confirmed to date were presented, the sponsors, patrons, the progress of the scientific program and the pre-program by specialties, the Website of the Congress http://congreso.sociedaddetrasplante.cl, among others.
Also, the first Continuous Education Course in Bolivia was dealt with, which will be held on 20 to 22 November, in Cochabamba, Bolivia. A scientific activity that is organized by the Latin American and Caribbean Transplant Congress, the Bolivian Organ and Tissue Transplant Society, Cochabamba branch, whose president is Dr. Maiza Saavedra and the Regional Coordinator of Transplants – Cochbamba venue, President Dr. Sdenka Mauri. The Statement made by the Ethics Committee of the Latin American and Caribbean Transplant Congress Society was reviewed regarding Transplant Tourism. This Statement will be made known in the near future.

Another important point that was dealt with by the Latin American and Caribbean Transplant Congress with was the progress made to date by the Transplant Nursing Department of the STALYC, which shows important progress in its organization, deferring its official constitution until the date of the XX Latin American and Caribbean Transplant Congress. There is a great deal of interest from Nurses from different countries to incorporate this organization that is accountable to the Society.
