In the Directive reunion held in March, the incorporation of two new Transplant Centers for internship of the improvement scholarship, awarded by the Society was approved.
The Centers that incorporate and add to a list of 10 Transplant Centers in Latin -America and the Caribbean are the following:
1. National Institute of Medical Science and Nutrition "Salvador Zubirán" of Mexico. Directed by Dr. Josefina Alberú:
An important number of patients with Renal insufficiency are attended in this Center. The proposal enhances training in Renal Transplant and in the Histocompatibility Laboratory.
2. Transplant Center of the Mutual Help Hospital, Puerto Rico. Directed by Dr. Eduardo Santiago Delpín:
In Puerto Rico there are aprox. 4.000.000 inhabitants, with a Government associated with the United States of America.
The impact of Renal Insufficiency is high: 350 per million per year. There are 4.000 patients in Dialysis (private and public), 68% with diabetes which brings within many complications.
There have been 1.700 transplants, 130 of which are heart transplants. There have been no Bone Marrow transplants. They have the lowest donation rate, with two donors per million per year. At present 3.28 pxp.

- They have carried out around 100 scientific publications and international conferences.
- 6 Training programs
- 1 Research training program
- Nurse rotation
- Rotation of pharmaceutical Industries (1 week of investigation)
